The human person holds the capacity to be a minister of the Word of God through music. But, not only does music provide a wonderful means of expressing faith, it also has the power to "lead us to the Creator of all harmony, creating a resonance within us which is like being in tune with beauty and truth of God, with the reality which no human knowledge or philosophy can ever express” (Pope Benedict XVI). In the Catholic Church, the organ is the accorded pride of place; however, other wind, stringed, and percussion instruments are also used in divine worship for solemnities or feast days.
Here at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, led by Director of Sacred Music Johnum Palado, we desire to deepen our relationships with God through the music of our sacred liturgies, to strengthen friendships and fellowship with other members of our parish, to grow in knowledge and appreciation of Catholic worship, and to be transformed through music and faithful discipleship in Jesus Christ.
INTERESTED IN JOINING OUR CHOIR?
After years without a choir prior to the pandemic, Holy Trinity Catholic Church has revamped its Music Ministry since 2020 with a growing church choir. Our choir currently has eight core members that serve the 10:30 AM mass on Sundays with cantors leading our other masses. Repertoire spans from the standard hymns to seasonal choral anthems and Gregorian chant.
Our Music Ministry welcomes new members who have a true desire to be of service to God and the church. Do you enjoy singing and/or playing musical instruments, and do you feel that you could make a regular commitment to rehearsals and liturgies? Of course, volunteers who have previous choral experience in church or college choir are welcome, but any volunteer who is interested in learning to sing in parts and in developing listening and tuning skills are also welcomed. (We like to say, "We'll provide the tune if you will provide the bucket!).
We are now recruiting volunteers to become part of our choir and Music Ministry. For more information, please contact the church office (318-221-5990).
SAFETY DURING THE COVID PANDEMIC
Holy Trinity's choir ministry takes proactive measures to assure that our choir loft is a safe environment. We follow safety protocols, including taking temperatures at each gathering, wearing medically approved singing masks, maintaining social distance, and other sanitation precautions. The music directors at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and the Cathedral of St. John Berchmans team up for a joint recital of their favorite pieces in the violin and organ repertoire. With the selected works spanning from the 18th century to the present, a universal expression of the human experience is found throughout these works - that unequivocal feeling of "being moved" by the music. As Johnum Palado and Aaron D. Wilson play, you witness not a performance, but simply two friends making music together.
